The Falcon and the Winter Soldier 1x06
So, last episode. And it was boring.
I’m not entirely sure I remember what happened, because I might have fallen asleep a couple times. I’m not even real sure this deserves a review. I’ve been saying all season that the fight scenes are the worst part of this show, and this episode was like 90% fight scenes, so I really don’t care.
Then Sam made a speech. And it was boring too. Then there were some closing scenes that were all boring and several went back to things that hadn’t mattered since the first episode. Oh, and they had to remind us that Sam was black a lot for some reason; news flash 75% of people’s reaction is going to be ‘good luck. But I’m not going to invest a lot in you. The last guy only lasted three weeks. Looks like maybe Captain America needs to be a super soldier.’
And all I’m going to say about Sam’s speech is that it’s very Steve, and I hate Steve so I’m not a fan. ‘Do better; now, I’m going to peace out and go do my own thing while other people actually have to make the big choices (too bad Tony’s not around, we could usually put this on his little human shoulders).’ That is basically why I hate Steve; so even if I agree with more of Sam’s point than I disagree with, I’m still angry. Also, fuck you Steve Rogers.
And on that topic, I’m going to talk about my boy Tony Stark. Because I was watching all the stuff Sam was doing in this episode going ‘this doesn’t seem very interesting. You know when it was interesting? When Tony did it.’ And I respect Tony so much more than Sam, because Tony had to make himself the ability to go out and save people. Sure, Sam’s a good guy, heart of a hero and all that; but Tony actually worked for what he did. Sam is Captain Wakanda; and only that because Bucky got him the suit, not because he worked it out himself.
I also spent a good chunk of this episode wondering where Peter was, and maybe some of the other Avengers. I might let them off the hook with Peter in character because they wouldn’t call in the kid; but they’re in New York, he could have shown up (I’ve been assuming this takes place pre-FFH; but it’s also my assertion that post FFH-Peter should just be chilling Pepper and Morgan while Stark lawyers and tech sorts the problem out). And where’s Rhodey?
And that’s about it. This episode was so boring that I spent half of it talking about characters not in the series much less the episode. This show was so much worse than WandaVision; and WandaVision wasn’t great. But you know how I kind of wanted May and Wanda to talk at the end of that show? Well I kind of want May to be on Sharon’s trail at the end of this one. And I’m going into Loki (whenever it happens) knowing that I want May to get the chance to beat his ass senseless. It seems I really want May around.
And yet again, I’m talking about people from other Marvel properties.
Plus, why does the rebranding at the end only apply to Sam? It was actually Bucky’s story about leaving behind the Winter Soldier identity. Captain America and the White Wolf damn it.
Oh and a final note: this show was basically 2/3 the length of WandaVision (in episodes, probably more than that in minutes of the show since those were on the short side) and I had about half as much to say about it. Considering this show was trying to say a lot more, I find that to be further damning it.
