Hello everybody, welcome back to some more reviewing. This time I made more of an effort to get quite a few reviews built up before I started posting, and not to pick something I want to write thousands of words about every episode (I’m already reviewing new episodes of AoS over on my livejournal, and they’re plenty long).
We’re going back for another season of The X-Files (maybe more than one season, but I’m not making promises up front, though I would really like to get to s4). So dial up your 90s modem and get out your over-bright flashlight because the truth is still out there, and we’ll try and find it.
Aside from maybe the last season (of the old seasons), s3 is probably the biggest blank spot in my viewing experience. I started watching in s4 and at that point there were some s1-2 episodes out on VHS that I got a chance to see, but not a lot of s3. And then either our local video store stopped getting them or I just stopped making an effort to find old episodes.
This is relevant to a point, as I find the reviews I’ve done for this season so far are very different than before. Following the same general structure (I’d already added my s3 questions to my list before I took the break from reviewing), but I find myself in a different place with the show than I had been. Without even my own past thoughts to compare my new ones to, I’m having some rather different attitudes to what I’m watching.
It could also be that the previous attempts at doing TXF reviews have been prompted by getting new content, while this is just returning to a previous re/watch, so I’m coming in cold. The old seasons of the show are having to find their own way and place to stand in my opinion, and that’s not quite where I expected them to be. So for one reason or another, tone is going to be kind of different than before.
Before we get started though, a few thoughts I had on where we left off.
Anasazi (redux)
-After Scully shot Mulder, how did she get him out of there before anyone reacted and called the cops? I don’t think they had that showdown right in front of her car so presumably she either had to go get the car or drag Mulder to it, either of which might have been noticed.
-Also, why didn’t she also shoot Krychek while she was at it?
-Also, seeing as the only proof they ever had that Krychek was in league with the evil league of evil was the cigarette butts found in his car and then his disappearance, why (aside being drugged) is Mulder so quick to assume Krychek happens to be the one who shot Pa Mulder? Yes, we know that he did (on that matter I think I forgot to count Krychek killing Bill Mulder on the kill counts for the episode), but Mulder doesn’t.
-Also, while I would agree that Mulder shooting Krychek probably would have made the situation worse, I’m not sure the logic in show is entirely sound. Mulder’s fingerprints are now on the gun, and if they wipe his off then Krychek’s won’t be there either (it would also be evidence tampering). Maybe they are hoping that if they take Krychek alive they can get him to confess, but that’s not what they say.
-Also, did Scully tell anyone about the water in Mulder’s building was being drugged? People could die from that if she didn’t.
