Mr. Selfridge announcement

Hell everyone, Happy New Year and welcome back to Tori Reviews. I have not in fact abandoned this blog, though it’s going to be a bit different for a while.

First thing is, I’m changing focus. We’re doing Mr. Selfridge for now. It was what I ended up exploring for NaNoWriMo this year so when I came back to doing reviews it was where my headspace was and I wanted to talk about it more.

You can continue following my thoughts on the present season of the DCCW shows at my semi-active lj but I wasn’t in the mood to go back to reviewing those shows here yet. I know what followers I have probably came for those shows and they’ll be back one day I’m sure, but not for now.

I did think going in that I would have less to say about Mr. Selfridge episodes, but that has not proved true. I thought I might change up style of reviews, but aside from a couple tweaks it’s still pretty much breaking the review into a series of talking points, and with so many characters to worry about my reviews are still fairly long.

But unless I get into a real groove for a bit, don’t expect more than two reviews a week, if that.

A few further notes:

-I considered when I started trying to be less casual with spoilers. I play pretty fast and loose with it in the Arrow (and Arow-verse) reviews, drop a lot of references to how I feel about the show based on the full length that I’ve seen. I usually don’t go into detail, but I don’t censure myself on that front by any means. But I know that Mr. Selfridge is a less well known show and I might be talking to an audience that hasn’t seen it. And to some extent I do downplay that in the MS reviews, I’ve got a couple things that I’m parsing off into some supplemental posts where all spoilers are on the table so I don’t get into them in the main reviews, but that doesn’t mean I don’t drop or at least hint at spoilers in the main reviews.

It just feels dishonest if I don’t talk about my real opinions, and those opinions are shaped by having seen the full show (though s4 I only watched once and only kind of remember). It’s why I tend to go out of my way to point out times when I clearly remember what my opinions on first watch were, so I can contrast them with what they are now viewing with fuller knowledge.

-I have read the book that inspired the series, but it was a couple years ago and I only remember a few pieces. There are only a few places where it gave me something to think about for the show, but if I think about it I will try and mention those thoughts.

-I will use season instead of series, I know it’s inaccurate but I find it avoids confusion when I want to talk about the series as a whole.

-I also don’t know how long I’ll stick with this show. It’s only 40 episodes long, which is less than I’ve already done for Arrow, even if we consider that it’s more seasons and I may do post-season posts too. But I especially don’t know that I’ll do s4, as I said I’ve only seen it when it first aired so I don’t have as many opinions on it (except that it’s kind of a mess – though I think there are reasons for that, that we’ll cover if and when we get there).

-You’ll have to forgive me if I slip and sometimes use lingo established on The Palm Court (UYDS), that’s about the only group I’ve ever engaged with over this show up to now and some things may slip in. Also, consider this a plug for that podcast, they’re very good at just about everything they cover.
